  CITY INFORMATION OF SUMI

Sumi is an administrative, economical, and cultural centre of Sumi region (Ukraine).

Population - 290.000

It is placed at the banks of Psel river and its tributaries Sumka and Strelka. A distance from Sumi to Kiev is 366 km.

It is a significant transport point crossed by car roads and railways.

It is divided into two administrative regions: Kovpakovsky and Zarechniy.

The city was founded in 1652. It had been created as Kazak's settlement who arrived here from the Western part of Ukraine. The city had been renovated into a castle to protect the South borders of Slobodskaya Ukraine since 1656.

Sumi is also an industrial centre. The main industrial plants are:
